CATOCOPTER RIG

The Catocopter rig is a sliding paternoster rig enabling you to fish livebaits at any depth. It is ideal for use when you are fishing in deep water when popping up a bait from the bottom is difficult, or fishing over deep weed. As with most paternoster rigs the rig tends to keep the livebait active and takes are usually very positive resulting in fast runs. It has been effective on waters where most people are popping up livebaits.

Key features

• Hooklink should be stiff ideally a low memory monofilament to minimise tangles.
• Lead link should be weak line in case of snagging and lengthy retrieval if fishing over weed. The stop knot can be set at required fishing depth as the buoyancy of the lower polyball will lift the hooklink up to required depth and hold it there. The rod should be fished beachcaster-style, with the tip right up in the air, under tension to keep the line clear of the water. If you are fishing at long range or with particularly large livebaits increase the polyball size to 2 ins diameter.
